Suction Well at Kathima Dam

In order to meet the water demands of the community, there would be need to increase the storage capacity of the Earth Dam. An additional dam has to be constructed around the existing dam. This will entail minor excavation works and construction of a massive dam wall. On sanitation in the water source, there would be need to construct a latrine at an appropriate location near the dam.

5.4.22 Kyevingi Earth Dam

The Earth Dam is located in Kieti Sub-location in Mathima Location. The dam was constructed in 1956 by the British. During the rainy season, water is supplied into the dam by two rivers, thus leading to high sediment deposits. Action Aid de-silted the dam in 2001 but has since decreased in volume due to high siltation rates. The dam also losses water due to high infiltration rates. Thus, the residents have sunk a shallow well downstream to draw water.
